So you are trying to craft some (hopefully) eye-popping thumbnails? As the creator behind those of my friend and collaborator Vileshinobi’s YouTube channel, I’here to give you a breakdown of my workflow. Let’s dive in!
My Tools
- Blender: To manipulate the Scene, the protagonist, and the lightning source.
- AI Gen: Using many project to generate assets, textures and background Images (Midjourney, Dall-e, Playground, Gliff, ect).
- Photopea: An online alternative to Photoshop for image editing.
- Custom Fonts: Because it’s what makes everything stick together.
The Process
1. Blender: Where Ideas Come to Life
- Load up some 3d assets into blender. (C00 licensing or your own)
- Set up lighting and camera angles for dynamic compositions.
- Render the scene with a transparent background for flexibility
LOAD ASSETS
ADD LIGHTS AND CAMS
SET TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND
DIRECT THE SCENE, THEN RENDER
2. Photopea: Where the Glow-Up Happens
- Drop that Blender masterpiece into Photopea
- Slap on a background that makes your eyes pop
- Tweak those colors until they’re chef’s kiss
- Add some sparkle with effects that’ll make your thumbnail shine brighter than a diamond
3. Font Game Strong
- Bust out those custom fonts that are so Vileshinobi
- Keep the text short and sweet – ain’t nobody got time to read an essay
- Make sure those words pop harder than popcorn
- Sprinkle in some design flair to tie it all together
4. Final Checks
- Size that bad boy to YouTube’s sweet spot (1280×720 pixels)
- Save it in a format that won’t make YouTube throw a fit (.jpg or .png)
